Twitter Results To Start Showing in Google Search Returns by Mid-Year

Twitter Reaches Deal to Show Tweets in Google Search Results
(Bloomberg) — Twitter Inc. has struck a deal with Google Inc. to make its 140-character updates more searchable online.
What’s changing?
Google previously had to crawl Twitter’s site for the information, which will now be visible automatically. It’s expected that by mid-year, tweets will appear in Google’s search engine results page (SERP) in real-time. First, it could make distribution of your content through Twitter more important. Tweets will appear almost immediately in Google results, making your content through Twitter more findable through Google. That means, you will want to focus on tweeting out content such as videos, articles, blog posts, info-graphics and other content via Twitter. With Google receiving data directly from Twitter stream in real time, it’s possible tweets get priority in content indexing and quicker appearance in search results.
How does this affect me, you ask?
Tweeting videos, articles, blog posts, info graphics, could all get you some viewers/followers. To get engagement, make the posts intriguing to the audience, using hashtags. Users search by hashtags for related content. If you write a tweet about chocolate chip cookies, once Twitter opens up its firehose*. Someone searching for chocolate chip cookies on Google may see results from Twitter containing that phrase.
What if I’m not already using Twitter?
Start! If you are not already using Twitter, it is a free marketing tool. Building an audience takes time. You have 140 characters to use – use it wisely. Needs to be a complete thought and something that would interest a user to click further or follow you. Start following others you think would benefit from following you. Be respectful: follow users that follow you, unless they can somehow hurt you by following them. Don’t forget the hashtags on words/phrases that others might search Twitter & Google for.
Caution: Negative tweets may also be a concern. For instance, negative references to your brand will be more visible to Google searchers instantly. That puts increased emphasis on monitoring and managing brand references on Twitter, and getting out in front in the event of negative references.
*Definition: “Firehose”, in general, is an interface (API) technology for supplying steady stream of all available data from a source in realtime.
